Acne Health: Helpful Tips for Oily Skin

by Gerald Steinert

Acne problems will usually be accompanied by oily skin. This reality is due to the fact that oily skin produces more sebum than other skin types. Therefore, oily skin is naturally more prone to clogged pores and acne lesions.

The key to being able to deal with this problem is to establish a regular cleansing routine. While the more serious acne forms should be treated by a medical professional, the standard cases of acne that are usually mild in nature can best be treated by a skin care routine. Even more so than with an acne cream.

Find out How to Cleanse Oily Skin

If you have oily skin you can use a soapy cleanser. However, stay away from soaps because they can dry out your skin and are in no way comparable to soapy cleansers. As a matter of fact, if you use a soap and your skin becomes dry, it will break or crack and let in acne bacteria.

A soapy, gel cleanser is ideal for your skin type and is even better if it contains acne fighting ingredients such as salicylic acid or retinol. Both of these ingredients will help stabilize the production of sebum. The will also help balance out the rate of cell shedding and keep debris from clogging up the pores.

Contrary to popular belief, you can use a natural acne remedy to treat oily skin. Discover when you have the opportunity what the milk of magnesia does to your oily complexion. Rub it into your skin and the rinse it off with warm water.

Toning and Exfoliating

What a toner will do for you is to help balance out your complexion. Keep in mind though that it might not be that necessary provided your cleanser is already effectively removing your makeup, residue, and extra sebum. If at any point you decide that using a toner is necessary, make sure that it is alcohol free.

Unlike toning, exfoliating your skin is vital and should never be avoided. On average you should exfoliate about once a week. This will depend on your age and skin condition of course. To exfoliate choose a scrub or use a product with salicylic acid.

A scrub is a mechanical exfoliant while salicylic acid is a chemical exfoliant. Both types of products are a good option. It all depends on your preference. Always Moisturize Skin ! even if you Have Oily Skin

Just because you have oily skin, do not assume that it does not require a moisturizer. The problem with oily skin is that it has too much oil, but not that it has too much moisture. With this in mind, look for a moisturizer that is oil free and apply it twice a day.
